The devil king of the Makai. He is the main antagonist of knight Arthur, always plotting ways of having revenge on him for previous encounters, and to annex the human realm to his own; has lived for thousands of years and is well versed in the magical arts. Has a secondary face on his abdomen which, though apparently unintelligent, can attack on its own, through a stream of fire.
He can turn himself to an undead state when near death. However, his body is posessed by an entity known as Nebiroth, the undead devil king when he does. His dark arts are greatly enhanced when the Nebiroth persona is in charge. His second face gains a much more potent fire stream that doesn't stop until it hits a wall or the floor, and his beam attack gains much more power, and increases in size.
Powers and abilities
His hide and clothing are stronger than steel. Posseses two fire-breathing mouths.
As a demon lord, Astaroth has vast lore of arcane magic. This, combined with his natural fire-breathing abilities give him complete control of his flame based attacks. He can either hail his enemies with small, deadly fireballs, scorch them with long fire lashes, or pierce them with his white-hot laser breath from his casting mouth. In Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins, he uses magic to fly as well.
Astaroth is also an expert deceiver. His illusions and mirages range from phantom clones of himself able to follow orders (he can even move two clones at once), to entire areas working as traps (like the infamous illusionary battle against him in the first game). His phantom clones are most likely the reason he has survived what seemed like certain death more than once. If he is at death's door, he can transform into Nebiroth.
