Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts[]
The Crossbow, known as Bowgun (ボウガン Bougan) in Japan, is a weapon that shoots 2 arrows in an upward-diagonal direction, which makes it a preferred weapon when fighting flying or leaping enemies, such as the Red Arremer or the Weredog. Arthur can strike up to two set of arrows at once.
When the Bronze or Golden armor is obtained, the crossbow becomes the Searching Crossbow (追撃のボウガン, "Chase Bowgun") and fires 3 flaming arrows that follow enemies. The downside to these "homing arrows" is the fact that when there are no enemies on screen, one of the flaming arrows circles around for a few seconds, and then flies off screen. When there is still a flaming arrow on screen, the crossbow can't be used again until it is gone, so if an enemy does appear, it can't be attacked unless the arrow goes off screen or if the enemy walks into the flying arrow. When the Golden Armor is obtained, Arthur has access to the Seek Magic (探索の魔法) that reveals all chests near his position. This is a tactical magic, but does not harm enemies.
Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins[]
There are three Crossbows in this game:
Scatter Crossbow[]
The Scatter Crossbow (散弾クロスボウ) fires arrows in 3 directions: Diagonally up, diagonally down, and straight ahead. Powering up increases arrow count to 5 and later 7, but not individual power. Only one set of arrows can be present in the screen at a time. While lacking power and speed, it has a wide range and does more damage when all arrows hit the target. Doing this requires Arthur to be closer to smaller targets, but it will also allow him to fire the arrows faster.

Fire Crossbow[]
The Fire Crossbow (火矢クロスボウ) fires flaming arrows straight ahead, being especially effective against enemies succeptible to fire. Has a fast fire rate, but a short range.

Elec Crossbow[]
The Elec Crossbow (電撃クロスボウ) fires electrical arrows straight ahead. It has a normal fire rate, high attack power (2), and can pierce through enemies. However, it is very rare, only appearing in a few areas from the game, like the top of the area with spiders in the Bloody Nest. It isn't dropped by enemies.
Ghosts 'n Goblins: Gold Knights[]
When used by Arthur, the standard crossbow fires three arrows like the Scatter Crossbow from Ultimate Ghosts'n Goblins. With the powerful armor, Arthur can fire five arrows and use its magic, which releases energy projectiles in eight directions.
When used by Lancelot, the standard shot is identical to Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, firing two arrows upward. With the powerful armor, it fires three arrows and Lancelot can use its magic, which releases four energy projectiles diagonally in a "X" pattern.
